The Journal of Technology in Human Services (formerly Computers in Human
Services), a Haworth Press journal, announces a call for papers for a special
issue to be titled: "Technology-Assisted Delivery of School Based Mental
Health Services: Defining School Social Work for the 21st Century". The
special issue will be edited by Bhavna Pahwa.
The growing availability and use of computers and Internet technology in
schools can be a great asset for school social workers. This special issue
will focus on the impact of technology on social work in schools and ways in

delivery, assessment, evaluation, advocacy, staff development, and resource
development. Articles should focus on descriptions and evaluations of
technology-assisted service delivery as well as discussions of theoretical
and ethical issues that impact school social work services as computer and
Internet use becomes more viable. Topics might include, but are not limited
to:
· Using computer and Internet assisted assessments in schools
· Using computers and the Internet for staff development in schools
· Using computers and the Internet to facilitate evaluation of service
effectiveness
· Using existing software to manage, store, and evaluate data related to
school based services
· Using the internet to find and access resources
· Description and evaluation of commercial software to assist school social
workers with the problems they face, e.g. truancy, drug & alcohol use,
depression, suicide etc. Those wanting to evaluate software for this special
issue can obtain a full working version of the software in exchange for an
accepted review. Contact the special issue editor about software you would
like to review.
