Dear Jameela:
Good dictionaries for these specialized and advanced studies are:
1. Battisti - Alessio, Dizionario Etimologico Italiano, Firenze, 1950-57.
2. Battaglia - Devoto, Grande Dizionario della Lingua Italiana.
3. I would also consult the Opera del Vocabolario Italiano (OVI) site, at:
http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/efts/ARTFL/projects/OVI/
These should provide a good starting point.
