Hello there,
I am interested in the relationship between what is know in the paper world
as a "loose leaf update" and the original publication which it updates. The
original resource is released say, once a year, and a series of updates are
released subsequently. With paper the updates are slotted into the original.
On the web, the two resources need to be related. An update can relate to a
number of resources.
This must be a fairly common situation, especially in legal publishing and
other professional and scientific areas. I need to be able to define this
relationship somehow and would like to do so in a standard dc way.
It seems that no Dublin Core qualifiers capture this relationship. I have
looked at "Requires" and "IsRequiredBy" but from the definition I don't
think that they are appropriate.
- The original resource still functions without the update (although it
will be out of date),
- The update needs the original to be of any use, however it can update a
number of resources.
Similarly IsBasedOn and IsVersionOf don't seem to fit the bill either.
Can anyone give me some guidance as to whether
1. there is an appropriate DC relation qualifier and
2. if not, what would be an appropriate extension: "Updates", "IsUpdatedBy"
perhaps?
cheers,
Murray
