RESEARCH FELLOW: Regional Economic Performance, Governance and
Cohesion in an Enlarged Europe
Ref 181
Applications are invited for the above post in the Sussex European
Institute to work full-time on an ESRC-funded research project
entitled Regional Economic Performance, Governance and Cohesion in
an Enlarged Europe. The project is part of the ESRC's One Europe or
Several? research programme and involves the analysis of uneven
regional development and the degree to which there is convergence in
the performance of firms and sectors within 'strong' and 'weak'
regions in East and West Europe. The project is cross-disciplinary
and collaborative across three institutions (the Universities of
Sussex, Durham and Hertfordshire). The research fellow will be
involved in all aspects of the project including co-ordination,
fieldwork drawing upon quantitative and qualitative methodologies,
and writing up of the results. The successful applicant will hold an
advanced degree, preferably a PhD, in geography, regional
development studies, or a related social science discipline. Start
date: 2 January 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. Informal

Fixed term for two years. Salary in the range: £16,286 to £18,185
per annum, on Grade 1A of the Research and Analogous Faculty Scales.
