Following Lawrence Berg's request, here's a list of Canadian East Timor
Action planned. All info came from the Canadian East Timor Action network,
which can be found at: http://www.etan.ca/

This list may also be interested to know that last night, at the emergency
meeting of APEC leaders in new Zealand - there was a most underwhelming vote
to 'step back and re-group' on the issue. There was no interest among APEC
representatives in imposing economic sanctions. All are waiting for
Indonesia to approve a UN peacekeeping force - which may or may not happen.

The wharfies - (dock workers) in Australia have announced a country wide
union ban on handling Indonesian cargo. If politicians are unwilling to act
toward trade sanctions, This may be something list members internationally
can do: contact the relevant trade union in your country to act in
solidarity with east timor through industrial action. Here's what the
Australian union movement are doing:'

* Industrial action against Indonesian interests
* Encouraging donations to the ACTU/APHEDA East Timor Emergency Appeal (ph:
1300 362 223)
* Supporting international union action
* Co-operating in the organisation of rallies, vigils, protests
* Maintaining pickets on Indonesian Consulates and Embassy

Hope this helps in a practical way.

Here's the list of Canadian events.
Cheers
Amanda
