I have to agree with Jenny's mailing this morning and feel that
Paul's subsequent response illustrates the problem that she
articulated so well. I admit that, like Pam, I've given up reading
many of the exchanges on the forum recently as they have seemed
to me to be more about point scoring, showing off and personal
digs than critical discussion. The use of anonymous emails
represented the epitome of this. Now, perhaps I have no right to
intervene at this point as I have not contributed to recent debate on
the forum, but I do find the confrontational nature of the discussions
intimidating, and certainly don't see how this form of exchange
facilitates communication. The term "politeness" might not be
entirely appropriate given its bourgeois moral connotations, but I
think that as members of this electronic community we should
show *respect* for the views of others.
