In response to Jenny Robinson's message on politeness etc, I couldn't agree
more with her views about the tone that contributions are taking and I tend
now to delete unless I am pretty sure that there is a reasonable person
contributing (which is why I opened Jenny's). I'm finding that it is not
just this list but that rather too many of the new generation of geographers
in Britain seem to be angry and looking for any target - I had some quite
remarkable abuse when I was trying to co-ordinate the SCGRG, result is that
I have given up the IBG conference and virtually everything else because I
no longer see much point in what is going on in the name of radicalism.
As to Jenny's correspondents, I suspect that one just doesn't really know
what the word hypocritical means but is clearly a rather unhappy person. The
other seems genuinely anguished - and one can sympathise, even though the
tone is quite unnecessary - I don't see much value in petitions either.
