1st International Conference on
"UNIVERSAL ACCESS IN HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION"
(UAHCI)
in co-operation with HCI International 2001
August 5 - 10, 2001
The Fairmont Hotel, New Orleans, Luisiana, USA

**********************************************************************
-------------------------------
| Objective and areas of interest |
-------------------------------
You are cordially invited to participate in the
1st International Conference on "UNIVERSAL ACCESS
IN HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION", to be held jointly
under one management and one registration with
HCI International 2001 (9th International conference
on Human-Computer Interaction).
The conference objective is to provide an international
forum for the dissemination and exchange of scientific
information on theoretical, generic, and applied issues
of universal access and usability in Human-Computer
Interaction, with particular emphasis to the notion of
diversity regarding users and context of use.
The conference solicits papers reporting results,
covering a broad range of research and development
activities that underpin computer-mediated human
activities in the emerging Information Society.
Particular emphasis will be given to the notion of
Universal Design, in order to facilitate equitable
access, high quality interaction and, thus, ultimately
acceptability of Information Society Technologies by
the broadest possible end-user population (citizens of
the Information Society). This population includes people
with different cultural, educational, training and
employment background, novice and experienced
computer users, the very young and the elderly, and
people with different types of physical, sensorial, cognitive
or situational disabilities, in various interaction contexts
and scenarios of use.
--------------------------
| Proposals for participation |
--------------------------
(i) Parallel paper presentations
An extended abstract of 800 words should be submitted
through the Web and should include a statement of the
objective and significance of the proposed presentation,
a description of methods, and a discussion of results.
(ii) Poster / Demonstration sessions
These sessions have been especially designed to
accommodate the late-breaking scientific and
professional news, working progress, work which
can be more effectively presented via demonstrations,
or when the author feels more comfortable presenting
the material in written form or demonstration rather
the oral presentation. An abstract of 300 words
should be submitted through the Web and should
include the essence of the planned presentation.
(iii) Special interest groups
The objective is to focus on a special topic of
major importance. An 800-word abstract should state
the objective and significance of the session,
potential participants (or how participants will
be selected), format of the session, and anticipated
duration.
(iv) Tutorials
An abstract of 300 words should state the objective,
content, target audience, a biosketch about the
presenter(s), and A/V requirements. Please indicate
whether the proposed Tutorial is for a half-day or
full-day.
All submitted extended abstracts will be peer-reviewed
by at least 3 members from the International Program
Committee.
