>Get the Consultants to.....
We have one Spr and one Staff Grade. Our Staff Grade works along side the
SHOs. The SpR shares the senior rota. We provide out of hours consultant
cover 5 days a week until 9 pm plus and a considerable amount of time at
weekends, my last weekend I was in CT scan 6 times between 1am sunday
morning and 1 pm Sunday afternoon (though that was exceptional). I think
the consultants are going to have to work more than they are at the moment
in many departments and provide cover. (i'm not saying that is right but I
feel we are being pushed that way). I think you can expect to be working
harder in the future...call it shafting ? maybe.
>Not have middle grade cover - just SHOs with consultants on call from home,
>like the 'good old days'
Heres a variation: SHOs with consultants on the shop floor, some of us are
providing that now.

Am I overestimating the contribution made by SpRs to quality A&E service
delivery?
There is great variation across the country. Some departments have 6
registrars and others one or none yet both see the same size and case mix
populations. Work the answer to that question out for yourself.
