If the footballer with iliotibial tract problems were my patient I would
check the following in particular:
- spine especially upper lumbar and SI joints
- state of the glutei and TFL - too tight? too weak? what about the other
side?
- core stability
- hip ROM.......any restriction especially of rotation or flexion /
adduction (quadrant position)
- overall LL tightness - all muscles
- knee - any restriction in fig. 8 accessory movement?
- foot and ankle - restriction and / or biomechanical deficiencies
The iliotibial tract itself is the last thing to look at......
