Applications are invited from graduates in Information
Science/Information Technology with good communication
skills for a number of posts in the newly-created Centre
for Digital Library Research managed jointly by the
University's Directorate of Information Strategy and the
Department of Information Science. All posts are for the
periods stated although extensions beyond these may be
possible depending on future requirements and associated
funding. Secondment may be possible and job-sharing
arrangements would be considered.
LIBRARIAN/PROJECT OFFICER: GLASGOW DIGITAL LIBRARY (Ref no: R47/99)
This high profile project aims to create a wholly digital
library supporting teaching, learning and research at all
levels in the city. Applicants will have technical, information
management and public relations skills together with the ability
to liaise with staff at all levels in the participating
institutions. Two year appointment. Salary up to £29,048 per annum.
PROJECT OFFICER: SCONE PROJECT (Ref no: R48/99)
SCONE will extend existing collaborative collection
management work in Scottish University and Research libraries,
integrating the results with the CAIRNS distributed catalogue.
Applicants will ideally have a good understanding of the
technical and policy issues and well developed web skills.
Two year appointment. Salary up to £29,048 per annum.
PROGRAMMER/TECHNICAL SUPPORT OFFICER: CAIRNS PROJECT AND THE BUBL
INFORMATION SERVICE (Ref no: R49/99)
Applicants will have an appropriate mix of skills for this
post which will involve programming in both PC(NT) and
UNIX (Linux, Solaris) environments, web development work and
software and hardware support. Experience of one or more of C, C++,
TCL, JAVA, the YAZ toolkit, Europagate or Perl would be an advantage.
One year appointment. Salary up to £29,048 per annum.
DIGITAL INFORMATION OFFICER (Ref no: R50/99)
The successful candidate will have the skills and experience
required to create a metadata repository and associated web-based
service interface for electronic resources created in or purchased
by the University, and to develop, maintain and disseminate associated
policies, standards and departmental training programmes. Three year
appointment. Salary up to £23,651 per annum.
PROJECTS CO-ORDINATOR : CDLR AND BUBL INFORMATION
SERVICE (Ref no: R51/99)
The successful candidate will assist the Director of Research
in the management of BUBL and other CDLR projects, together with
bidding to extend the scope of CDLR activities. Experience of project
management, working for a networked information service and well
developed web skills would be an advantage. One year appointment
initially. Salary up to £29,048 per annum.
