I have a patient who has been a T4 paraplegic for 44 years. Last November he
ruptured his left triceps tendon, conservative treatment did not help and
last April he had it surgically repaired. Both his shoulders are worn down to
bone on bone and very limited in range. We seem to have got about 45% to 50 %
of functional activity for tirceps but nowhere near enough for him to drive (
uses left arm for accelerator and brakes), or for transfers. He was
independant in transfers before his injury. He cannot actively extend his
elbow against gravity or beyone 110 degrees with gravity eliminated. He has
full range passively. Any ideas please?????? I have been doing isometric
shoulder strengthening, active resisted biceps, active, resisted and active
assisted triceps. Brushing, stroking, icing fascilitation of triceps to get
some activity against gravity.
Thanks Helen
