I am involved in an interesting research on rectus diastasis abdominis. It
is
not yet supplemented by research that any disruption of the linea alba does
hamper the strength of the abdominal muscle group. But theoratically all
muscle groups of the abdomen complex do have their attachments at the linea
alba. I would appreciate any discussion on this topic, if anyone has
interest in how the abdominals would play an important role in the
stabilization of the pelvis and diastasis if still present postnatally how
the functions of the abdominals would be affected and how much influence
would the structural changes have on the function.
A gap of two finger-width or 20 cm between the muscle bellies of the rectus
abdominis is considered significant. Non-pregnant women of child-bearing
age do not have any gap between the bellies.
