A pretty good guess is that she activated triggerpoints in the
sternocleidomastoid muscle. This muscle Travell& Simons called
"Amazingly complex" and for good reasons.
I recommend reading about the scm in "Travell, J & Simons, D. Myofascial
Pain and Dysfunction" vol 1.
