Disability Research Discussion Group
List Members & Colleagues
I am a doctoral student in clinical psychology at California School of
Professional Psychology in Alameda, California and have been a member of
the Disability Research Discussion list for several years. I am soliciting
for informal input on my dissertation research.
My topic focuses on the identification and measurement of daily/small
hassles (i.e., social oppressors) experienced by people with visible
physical disabilities, and assessing how identity with one's minority
status acts as a mediator.
Since I have been unable to find an appropriate scale that accurately
identifies and quantifies disability-specific hassles, I am in the process
of developing one as part of my doctoral research. I would appreciate it if
individuals who have visible physical disabilities would look over the list
of daily hassles and comment on any items that you feel are inappropriate
or that might be missing (and I'm sure there are many).
It might be important to know that I am only interested in targeting small,
daily hassles and not major life events. These events need to be concrete
and measurable, and not focus on emotional and/or somatic states.
I would appreciate feedback through my personal email at:
[log in to unmask]
unless this topic generates conversation and collegial interchange that
would be interesting and beneficial for the entire discussion group.
Thank you for your assistance.
