Hi,
I am a research fellow at the Centre of Institutional Studies,
University of East London. We are currently evaluating Newham's
New Bail Options Scheme, aimed at reducing the number of young
people remanded where lack of appropriate accommodation prevents bail,
prevention of young people offending while on bail, reducing the number
of custodial remands for 10-17 year olds and reducing the number of young
people taking to surrender court bail. An essential part of the evaluation will
focus on young offender's use and opinions of the scheme as well as changing
behaviour and attitudes. At CIS, we are responsible for monitoring and evaluating
such schemes and are very aware of the need to develop
appropriate sensitive research methodologies. Can anyone
suggest key published papers, relevant literature, ideas on research
methods in evaluating such schemes (or any other similar
schemes) particularly around the notion of measuring the impact
on young peoples' attitudes, behaviour, confidence and self
esteem. What method/s would be best suited to measuring such
change, if any. Thanks for any assistance.
