Hi
We use a lot of passive hangs (Prone lying with knee over the end of the
bed with a 1-2kg on the ankle - passive stretching for 10-15 minutes at a
time- as much as the patient can tolerate) as well as plenty of passive
stretching from the Physio, to regain full extension, we have used them
successfully to prevent the need for further surgery and following
notchplasty. We have found this helpful in many cases of fixed flexion
deformity following a locked knee, especially where surgery has been
delayed for any reason.

Subject: ACL notchplasty
I wonder if anybody has had experience with notchplasty post ACl
reconstruction.
I would like to hear the opinon of physios who have had dealt with the
below
problem.
A patient is now 5 months post ACL patella tendon reconstruction, and is
still
lacking about 10 degrees full extension. She is due to see her surgeon for
a
review soon. From the internet, a doctor (surgeon) advised that notchplasty
was
a possibility. Is this usually sucessful; what is the physio rehab after
this
procedure. We do not have CPM units here; what are the alternative
(nursing?)
practises that can be instituted, post surgery, to avoid this complication?
Looking forward to your replies
Regards
Tambu
