I came across this curiosity recently while scavenging for magic
practices. This comes from an anthropological study done in modern
Corsica.
A reduction charm for worms, done by an old priest from a distance,
involves sprinkling with a three branched twig of heather; invokes
"Domine Padre et spiritu santu" (??no Son??), and asks how many worms
the named cow has before counting down from nine; repeats rituals three
times; worms will be excreted four days later (?). opens with a strange
appeal "O Laree." Bertrand-Rousseau, P., Ile de Corse et magie blanche
(Paris, 1978), 102-05.
By the way, Latin mass is available way out here in the middle of
the Pacific. Although I have not had a chance to visit, I understand it
is performed monthly in a small parish church right in my own valley.
