CALL FOR PAPERS
5th International Conference on the Dynamics of Strategy
6th - 7th April 2000 at the University of Surrey, UK
This series of conferences provides a forum for the discussion of strategic
management under conditions of change and uncertainty. High quality papers
dealing with any aspect of this fundamental problem are invited. Keynote
speakers in previous conferences have included: Professor John Kay,

'Journal of Business Research'.
The theme of the conferences is studying how organisations can continually
instigate, adapt to and profit from change.
Issues on which papers are requested include (but are not limited to) :
* The nature of competitive advantage in uncertain and changing environments
* The role of intangible assets
* Organisational learning and knowledge management
* Strategy under evolving and flexible structures
* Organisational decision making
* Managing uncertainty and risk
* Models of consumer and competitor behaviour
* Institutional and evolutionary views of adaptation
* The role of information systems
* Marketing in uncertain environments
* Organisational culture and change
Customer Management Stream
This stream of our annual strategy conference is for academics and advanced
practitioners - managers, consultants and other suppliers i.e. those who
have as a main task to develop customer management concepts and/or bring
them into their companies and test/implement them. It gives them the
opportunity to meet and exchange ideas in a rigorous academic environment.
The stream arises out of Sems' work as the leading UK centre for research
into customer management.
Some of the key areas of focus for this stream are:
* Database, direct and relationship marketing
* Customer knowledge management
* Customer service
* Customer-facing media and information technology
* Distribution channel management
* Good and "bad" customers
In addition to the selection of papers for the 'Journal of Business
Research', selected papers from this stream may be offered publication in a
relevant customer management journal or in a financial services journal.
Both full papers and working papers are called for. Cross-disciplinary
papers applying concepts developed in other fields are welcomed. Full papers
should be submitted in two stages: a 1 page abstract by 15 November 1999
(feedback will be given on suitability) followed by the full paper by 15
December 1999. Full papers will be refereed by the programme committee and
final versions must be submitted by 15 February 2000. Accepted papers will
be published in the conference proceedings. Working papers that report work
in progress are also solicited and will be included in the proceedings.
Proposals to arrange sessions on particular topics are also welcomed.
