WEB and CMC ASSISTANT, TEACHING & LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES
Grade 4, permanent post
We are looking for someone who
* has experience of using web and CMC for educational purposes
* has experience in training novice users of Web and other
technologies
* enjoys the challenge of organising a busy workload, and using their
own initiative
If this is you, then you could be the person we are looking for to join the
School's Teaching and Learning Technology Team, which provides key input to
the development of courses and teaching support systems using a variety of
technologies, including the Internet, WWW,CD-ROM and computer-mediated
conferencing (CMC).
The Open University Business School is the largest provider of distance
learning management courses in the UK with around 25,000 students in the UK,
in Eastern and Western Europe and in parts of Africa and Asia. The Business
School has received an 'Excellent' rating by the Higher Education Funding
Council for our teaching and support systems and our MBA has been accredited
by AMBA (Association of MBAs). The School has Investor in People status and
was recently awarded the Queen's Award for Services to Export.
In this post you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the
School's Internet and Intranet products and services and of the CMC system.
The work will include changing and maintaining the School's WWW pages,
setting up electronic conferences, providing solutions to users' problems
and preparing training materials
We are looking for a person with well-developed IT skills, in particular in
the use of EXCEL and WORD, who is able to work on their own initiative
within agreed guidelines. You should have GCSE Grade C or equivalent,
including in English and Mathematics, an understanding of the use of www
and CMC for learning and some HTML technical understanding. You should be
able to work on your own initiative, be keen to train in new technical
skills and able to communicate effectively with staff of varying technical
understanding.
The post is on the S4 scale, £13,074 to £15,134 p.a.
