Dear All
It may sound like I am flocking to support Mairian here but thats not quite
all of it. I would not be suprised if she disagrees with what I am saying.
I am going to make a statement which may or may not startle. I have
cerebral palsy, I *understand* what my disability is yet I could not truely
say I *know* or have *knowledge* about disabilities. There is a difference
between understanding/knowledge.
Is anyone on this list familiar with the woek of Peter Winch and Gadamar.
They both looked at the way knowledge could be obtained. Winch saw to
posistions for collecting knowledge, the insider position, the PWD in the
case and the outsider. Neither knowledge collector or their methods is
questionable really, but merely incomplete. Gadamar suggested the only way
to resolve this was through a "fusion of horizons" the outsider sharing
their knowledge & understanding with the insiders.
Thus while we all be voyeurs in a sense that does not mean that the voyeur's
knowledge (what they know and understanding (what they infer) may be
invalid.
Michael
