Carolyn,
It seems to me Theories try to explain life. Some theories appear more cogent
than others. For example my friend who is gay has a theory that his
homosexuality is rooted in his relationship with his father. Some theorists
believe it is rooted it genetics. The truth for me is we do not know.
With reference to theories it is my theory that theorists enjoy their field for
several reasons but two that stand out is 1. First it gives them a sense of
power.. of "I know"
2.Second power in terms of livelihood. I mean their is nothing as silly for me
as the new theories around minority groups, namely feminist, black, disability,
etc. ad nauseum theories. However, there is money from the governments who give
money to this silliness based in universities where Muggeridge observed:
"Education, the great mumbo jumbo and fraud of the the age, purports to equip us
to live, and is prescribed as a universal remedy for everything , from juvenile
delinquency to premature senility. For the most part, it only serves to enlarge
stupidity, inflate conceit, enhance credulity and put those who are subjected to
it at he mercy of brainwashers...."
The real problems for me as a quadriplegic is best addressed in the arts and
existentialists. The issue for me is how do I exist now and get ready to die. I
find existentialists like doestoevsky(epelepsy) William blake (Maybe
Schizophrenia) and Kierkegaard(some sort of curvature of the spine) of
tremendous help in existing as a disabled person. For me most theories and
modern research are superfluous.
Henry.
