Could it be simpler than this? Some jobs are resereved for people of
different sex, race et cetera for no other reason than people expect those
of that minority to be in that position. Disability is defined by the govt
and some jobs set aside for disabled people, it works like this for everyone
(fortunately or unfortunately) Why was I taught Feminism by a woman? Why is
the gynaecologist at my hospital a woman? why was a friend of mine taught
Engineering by a man? I would not expect it to be othewrwise. And that is
my point - no govt involvement just social expectations. Though I wouldn't
mind the cases named above to be reversed i.e Feminism taught by a man. If
you eliminate govt involvement social expectations (remember there was a
time when it was illegal for a woman to work) remain.
When the the govt define X as a disability it only strengthens the social
expectation. The expectation is already present.
I see reversed discrimination as a necessary evil. There has to be jobs for
PWD's. But I don't like Tolerence as a standpoint. Like Voltaire "I
disapprove or what you say [or do] but would defend with my like you right
to say it". You can't call something evil than put up with it. However
until the world works on merit it is the only standpoint I feel I can take
on this issue. And I do not believe the worl will ever be a meritocracy.
