Hi
Not that its all that important, my assertion was that Albert used the
word 'sin' not the newspaper. I was not saying that the newspaper
was trashy because it used the word sin. I realise that this was a
quote. I was saying it was trashy for simply running the article.
Albert's use of the word 'sin', particularly for a scientist, is nauseating
and indicative of the contempt owing to him. Please put my
'apparent' reference to the word sin down to a grammatical
misadventure.
Also I am not convinced that people do take on without question,
such reports. Is there any evidence to suggest that we are such
passive consumers of knowledge?..I am not so sure historical
evidence of propaganda is so relevant in examining this idea. I
would like to know how we see people reading messages such as
Singer's and Albert's in the post modern era where we are constantly
bombarded by advertising and pulpy news and current affairs. Are
we really swept away by the tide of consumerism or do we play a
more active role as discerning consumers of knowledge. I do think
there is enough evidence to support the theory that people do enjoy
reading 'trash' "my baby was abducted by aliens: mothers tragic
story" as evidenced by increasing sales of 'women's magazines'. But
how do we 'read it' nowadays?
