Well said. People believe they want lots of information in a metadata record,
but experience has shown if that information is to mean anything, it must be
kept current--otherwise, it's not only useless, it looks bad for all the
metadata creators and it's a hindrance for everyone.
When someone puts a bit of information into a record, it implies a committment
to keep that information meaningful, and I don't think we should be in the
business of creating and maintaining phone books.
Other bits of information may prove useful even when they become out of date,
but we should be very careful as to what we decide to add to the record.
