I wish to comment on the education msgs from Anita and Ozcan. I agree
that education is the key. Our ADA Legislation is more helpfull in
dealing with govt entities and schools than businesses. There are areas
that have to be hammered out and reviewed (and pushed). The physical
access problems seem to be the easiest areas agreed on and fixed. The
areas of academic substitutions/equiv or waivers are an on-going battle.
Getting a college-wide process in place for requests, reviews, and
approvals has been a great saver of effort and time. Each case now has a
published flow to follow (with time periods). The precedent for academic
subs/equiv or waivers has meant a lot for our students with documented
learning disabilities (esp dyslexia, dysphasia, and dyscalculia.)
