Hi,
Last night on TV I saw a report (I think from the Australian Institute of
Sport) that some athletes are actually causing more problems by drinking too
much e.g. Gatorade. Athletes think they are helping their bodies and so
drink alot. In fact they are causing salt depletion by adding too much
fluid. Even though they are adding salts in the drinks, they add too much
fluid. The drinks add less salt than they are losing and thus increased
dilution results i.e. hyponatremia.
The solution is to drink only a minimal amount of these drinks - amount
unsure as I am only recounting a short TV programme.
Hope this may lead to more info for you. Lynda
