All I can say to that is WOW. What an enlightened opinion from a male.
(Nothing against males in general). You are quite right about the language
used, but it doesn't stop at that. It is also the pervading idea that if
something is wrong with the body in any way, it must be removed, taken out,
replaced, or whatever can be done to "remove the offending material." What
about a more preventative message? We used to talk about that in medicine,
but what happened to that thought pattern and the NEW ERA that HMO's were
supposed to be bringing us in providing for Preventative care?
I believe that somehow the thought got lost in the industrialization of
medicine and the need for more profits by For-Profit institutions. We need to
find a way to get that thought back into the American conciousness, and
Therapy is THE WAY to do it. We are the perfect combination of prevention and
instruction that's needed. I think that what our APTA representatives should
be doing is to come up with new markets that we can use to prevent injuries
in industry and prevent disease using the old-fashioned techniques of good
exercise and body mechanics and ergonomics.
