Mailbase allows e-mail discussion groups the facility to hold an archive of
past e-mail messages and a library of attached files. These can be made
available purely through e-mail or on the Internet. At the moment SMR Forum
has a web page and archive copies of e-mail messages and any files are
accessible to anyone that knows the mailbase web address:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk
SMR Forum is a closed discussion list that no-one can join without being
added by one of the list owners. We may choose to have an open discussion
list, this means anyone can join simply by sending a request to mailbase.
Alternatively, we may choose not to have a web page or to have a password
protected web page which would limit access to the groups archives and files
to group members. What do you think?
I have uploaded a copy of Issue 8 of SMR News to mailbase as an experiment.
You can get a list of all files saved for SMR Forum by sending an e-mail to
[log in to unmask] with the command Index SMRforum. as the only text in
the message. You will then get a list of all files and their filenames, to
obtain a copy of any file you send the command 'get mime SMRforum filename'
again to [log in to unmask]
If this system works we can upload sections of the SMR desk manual to
mailbase for list members to access.
