In a modest way this integration has finally begun to happen. I use
FrontPage 2000 (okay, I confess I'm not an MS basher) and I've fantasized
there would come a time when FP would have a little button on the task bar
with 'DC' inscribed on it. This button would open an intuitive form for the
Web creator to add even complex DC without knowing code. Well, MS is
apparently working with a small company called Hiawatha Island Software that
produces an FP add-on,t providing just such functionality. The current
version allows you to set up a DC lite template, but I've been told that the
upcoming version will permit DC complex templates. Hiawatha also has a
standalone product called TagGen, which allows one to configure a variety of
metadata (there is also a specific DC version of this software).
There are DC tools out there, but as you infer DC will not become widely
implemented or used until you see integration into popular commercial
software, from enterprise database software like Oracle on through to
authoring tools such as Dreamweaver. I think TagGen for FrontPage is a good
example of what we need more of.
