While I am not familiar with the background to the decision by Exeter
University to close the Centre for Women's Studies, it seems this matter
should be of grave concern to members of the Critical Geography Forum.
>From my perspective it seems like one more example of (neo-liberal)
university administrations taking pot-shots at critical academics. If
Women's Studies centres are 'vulnerable' to this kind of action, then so
are critical geographers (not least, feminist geographers)!
With this in mind, I wonder if Christine can provide further background
information on the closure.
I would also like to suggest that CGF members could participate in
generating our own 'electronic' petition on the CGF, voicing our
collective opposition to the closure of the Centre for Women's Studies at
Exeter.
If Christine can assist, then I am happy to help organise the electronic
petition.
