UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN
10th BIENNIAL CULTERTY WORKSHOP
"INTEGRATING APPROACHES IN ECOLOGY"
To be held on 25-26th September 1999 at Culterty Field
Station, University of Aberdeen.
WORKSHOP THEME
The aim of this years Culterty workshop (the 10th so
far!)is to bring together a wide range of post
graduate ecologists with different perspectives on the
approaches used to test current ecological theory.
Ecological research can vary according to the type of
biota studied (plant, microbial, and animal); type of
habitat studied (terrestrial or aquatic); or over
different spatial scales (ranging from the individual to
ecosystem level).
Previous Culterty Workshops have been well
attended by animal ecologists, it is hoped that this
year's workshop will also appeal to and reflect the
interests of plant and microbial ecologists.
THE CULTERTY WORKSHOP
The field station hosts a biennial workshop, organised by
postgraduate students of the University as an informal
gathering of postgraduate and postdoctoral ecologists,
providing opportunities for people to discuss their
research interests in an informal and friendly atmosphere.
The workshop is held over a weekend during which there
will be three scheduled sessions reflecting the differences
or similarities in approaches used to study different
habitats, biota and across different scales. Sessions will
consist of talks by guest speakers, student presentations,
and a range of workshop discussion sessions. The weekend
will also entail a poster session, an outdoor excursion, as
well as a Saturday night pig roast (with vegetarian
alternatives!) and traditional Scottish Ceilidh.
If you are interested in attending the workshop then
electronic registration forms are available at
