The Future Technologies Research Group, part of the Advanced Communications
Research (ACR) department at BT Laboratories, has begun some leading research
and development into believable interface agents and prevention against

I am keen to hear from candidates who may be interested in joining
one of the company's cutting edge research groups which has a remit of
carrying out world-class R&D and successful exploitation in applications.
The position is available for now (June 1999 - March 2000) in the first
instance.
This positions are ideal for young and enterprising researchers, perhaps
a postgraduate/PhD students who wants a year out in industry or who want to
secure a position with R&D in industry. It is also ideal for those with
a postgraduate degree and with the necessary skills required who want to
spend sometime in an R&D environment. EC nationals are preferred but all
full-time UK postgraduate non-EC students carrying out similar research
are eligible to apply.
The department has extensive collaborations with leading UK, European and
American universities.
BT Laboratories (BTL), at Martlesham Heath in the east of England, is
acknowledged as one of the world leading telecommunications R&D centres in
terms of both size and excellence.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Play a major part in the research, design and development of believable interface
agents. Play a major role in identifying new applications of such ideas.
Candidates with good grounding of interface agents, behavioural systems and
3-D graphics techniques are especially welcomed to apply.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
PhD, MSc., BSc or equivalent research experience in an area related to interface
agents or malicious mobile agents work. For the malicous agents post, interest
in security is very desirable.
Good innovative and software programming skills including in at least three of
the following: Java, C++, C, PC and UNIX. Indeed, experience in programming in
Java is a must! 3D Graphics, behavioural systems and database skills would be
desirable. High motivation and good interpersonal, teamworking, writing
and communication skills.
