Wolfgang Rudig. Green Filters: Alternative Knowledge Intermediaries and
Environmental Policy. An examination of the role of the Intermediary
organisations (government lead or alternative research institutes) that have
arisen as a result of environmental mobilisation over the past twenty years.

Simon Locke. Rhetoric and the Public Understanding of Science. What is the
role of written and spoken language in the relationship between science and
its publics?

Jonathan Osborne. Towards a Science Education for the Public Understanding
of Science. How far does the science taught in our schools go towards
producing a scientifically literate public?

The Science Policy Support Group (SPSG) is pleased to announce a special
three part series of lunchtime events detailing the work of the Fellows in
the ESRC New Opportunities Programme on the Public Understanding of Science.

These will be held on June 18th, July 16th and July 26th 1999 at SPSG's
offices at 1 Birdcage Walk, Westminster, London.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss some of the issues currently
heading the public understanding of science debate and to question the
Fellows on the implications of their work for policy, practice and future
research.

The cost of each lunch club is £18.00 including lunch and refreshments.
Places are limited so early booking is advised.

burgeoning and increasingly prominent technologies of assisted conception?

Ian Robinson. Public Understanding of Science in Medicine: An
Anthropological Perspective     How do medical scientist, particularly those
involved in medical trials, understand and evaluate their work?

Josephine Anne Stein. The Changing Mores of Science: Public Understanding
and Public Accountability. How can public participation in civic affairs
concerning scientific and technical issues be improved?
