Hi Andrew.
Unfortunately, as Jel pointed out, we are protocol driven. I personally
don't like this and would like to see it changed to common sense driven
care.
Protocols still advise us to infuse patients with fluids. There are many,
many reasons why it is not possble to achieve an on scene time sometimes. My
shortest on scene time is 6 minutes for a m/cycle rta with multi system
trauma - it can be acheived but not always. My average is 16 minutes (last
years personal averages for multi system trauma)
So.. as 10 minute on scene times are still not achievable due to other
factors - is there any reason you can see why myself and my collegues are
not inserting 18g cannula's which can infuse adequate amounts within a
reasonable time frame of 25 minutes arrival on scene to arrival in AEU
instead of the big 14g jobbies?
