Greetings,
I have come across several references to an Italian
literary history, written in Latin (probably in the early
C17th), and described by Quadrio, among others, as
'Caferro, *Synth. vetust.*'. I had though it might be one
of the various works (going under an alternative title) of
the C16th pedagogue Girolamo Cafaro (Capharus), but that
now seems unlikely, as he is also mentioned in relation to
*Il pastor fido*, and Cafaro's dates don't appear to
stretch that far. If anyone can offer a clue I would be
most grateful.
