All,
I am currently undertaking a small research project looking at how academics
mark pieces of coursework and examinations, particularly relevant at this
time of year! In particular I am interested in the use of marking schemes,
the apparent variety these can take, and the usage of marks below a standard
'fail' (0-40?) and above a first (80-100).
I would be very interested to receive any marking schemes currently in usage
in geography departments, both in the UK and internationally, and any
comments list members have to make about this process (especially in light
of future attempts at benchmarking, unifying standards across universities
etc etc). Members can either contact me personally or through the list, and
all contributions will, of course, be treated in the strictest confidence.
Ultimately it is hoped that the findings will form the basis of a short
research paper, and any information provided will be relayed back to the
list when the work is complete.
Thanks
