Subject: DESERT ISLAND SCIENCE
Dear Amanda,
I was given your e-mail address by Hazel Norman at the BES. We were
talking
about a new science series for BBC2, with the provisional title of
DESERT
ISLAND SCIENCE. I've attached a description of the series - but in
essence,
the idea is that we put together a team of scientists whose expertise
covers
the whole range of science disciplines, and airlift them to an island
without their computers or any sophisticated 20th century technology.
There,
they will be faced with various scientific challenges and they have to
think
on their feet and work out the solutions from first principles.
I'm contacting you because I understand that you are the co-ordinator of
a
network of women ecologists - and we're looking for a woman ecologist to
join our team! Particularly, we want someone whose expertise is either
in
terrestrial / field biology or shoreline ecology. It may be that they
are
strong in one area with an interest / hobby in the other. In short, a
practical generalist.
Personality is very important. We need someone who is dynamic,
enthusiastic,
and with an attractive personality who can communicate well.
Given all of these requirements, do you think you can recommend anyone?
Or
could you post our description on your e-mailing list and ask people to
apply?
Sorry to dump this on you - but it seemed such a natural 'fit' as we are
specifically looking for a female ecologist!
I look forward to hearing from you, and offer my thanks in advance.
Best wishes,
Marinella
