Haven't seen this piece but... Duncan has recently produced a hefty report,
presumably the basis of the above article. Not pleasant reading!

This subject has come into the press recently due to the new Data
Protection Act. Companies will not be able to collect data on employees
without their knowlegde. Many companies (most large US corporates already
monitor email) will face legal difficulties if they continue monitoring as
they are doing now.
Remarkbly, a recent survey (can't recall off hand where I saw it now)
suggested that most employees aren't concerned about their employers
reading their email.
