Don't know about rowers & getters but a picker's job was to clean fleeces
ie. remove burs etc, the term was also used in wool mills to describe the
workers who collected stray wool from beneath the machines, on the floors
etc. & who also cleaned the teeth of the machines when they got clogged
with fluff from the fleeces.
