Dear All,
I wonder if anyone can help.
I've been using the England and Wales, Mormon index to the
1881 census to plot the distribution of Gatley's at this
time.
I note that the first of the four numbers on the right-hand
sheet of each page in the index is arranged according to
registration district. i.e. London districts have the
lowest numbers, then Surrey, Kent, etc. upto Anglesey with
the highest numbers.
Does anyone have a 'key' that relates these numbers exactly
to registration district? I could construct one myself but
it would take hours.
Also does anyone know why the index does not show the
registration county of each place, as well as the ancient
county? (Surely they are as important as one another)
