Yet another punter pestering for information. I hope someone can
help.
A friend of mine, not on email, is looking into Mrs Elizabeth
Montagu, the 18th century hostess and literary personality, who
had connections (meaning property) in the Newcastle area.
Someone else has told her that Mrs M (and family) owned (or
leased ?), among their properties elsewhere, a house in Kent,
called Mount Morris. She has even been given an 18th C picture of
Mount Morris, a smallish ?Baroque house, with formal 17C style
gardens laid out at the back.
I can't find Mount Morris in the OS 1:50,000 gazetteer at all, in
Kent or anywhere else. Can anyone tell us if the house still exists
? If it does, what is its name today ? And where is it (was it) ?
Any interesting connections (apart from Mrs M herself) ?
Any help gratefully received.
Roger Fern.
