My advice is not to worry about the package.
Just type your entries in to a spreadsheet package,
numbering each record, and adding additional columns for
standarized surnames and first names.
Create one master file only, with a column indicating the
type of entry (birth, marriage, death, etc.).
When you've done this, create some life history sheets.
Then use the sort function on the spreadsheet package to
sort the names and dates. Then complete the sheets in
pencil copying the information down from the spreadsheets.
There are probably much better packages available, but this
methods should work and it will not cost that much. It will
also take much less time to do then the old manual method.
You will also be able to transfer your data to other
packages, if you save your work in '.wk1' format.
