There is a list of General Registration regions with the reference numbers
for 1837-51 and 1852-1946 in Terrick FitzHugh's "Dictionary of Genealogy: A
Guide to British Ancestry Research" under 'General Register of Births,
Deaths and Marriages'. Other family history guides have probably also got
the same list.
