Dear List Members
I am pleased to announce that Niall Johnson will be taking over as the list
manager for Critical-Geography-Forum. Niall will help list members with
joining and leaving the list, and keep the list running smoothly, develop
the website ect ect. All queries about problems with messages should now be
directed to him. Lawrence Berg and Moya Kneafesy will also continue to
moderate Critical Geography Forum for the foreseeable future.
Niall is a third year PhD candidate at Cambridge working on 1918-1919
influenza pandemic,
particularly in England & Wales. This he tells me is builds upon an MA on
the Pandemic in Canada done at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo,
Ontario, Canada in 1991-3. He is graduate of Macquarie University (Sydney,
Australia). He also tells me he has had several years of 'real world'
experience as consultant in communication.
Niall is taking over a list that currently has 584 members and growing (an
increase of nearly 100% since January 1998). Whilst most of the list
membership remains UK in origin, European membership has grown
considerably, as has membership from North America. The list has also has a
small but growing membership in South Africa, Brazil, Japan, Malaysia,
India, Russia, and more.
While I know there is much dispute over what the imagined/real/virtual
community of critical geography might be, I think all of us would wish
Niall all the best in maintaining the integrity of a discussion list, which
as recent postings have demonstrated, offers continuing opportunities for
the development of alternative and radical geographies.
Denis
