I would be grateful if list members could bring the following
information about funded research degree opportunities in the Department
of Land Economy at the University of Aberdeen to the attention of
suitable candidates.
The Department of Land Economy can award a fully funded PhD studentship
to high callibre candidates who wish to pursue a research degree based
upon one of the following topics:
'Rural restructuring in the northern periphery'
(to be supervised by Prof Mark Shucksmith)
'An investigation into the linkages between housing and commercial
property cycles in development output and prices'
(to be supervised by Prof Bryan MacGregor)
In addition, the Department can offer a number of fees only bursaries.
Opportunities for teaching (tutorials and project work) are available.
Suitably qualified candidates with an interest in the following fields
are welcome to apply:
Urban redevelopment / regeneration;
Rural policy, social exclusion in rural Europe, the UK and North
America and changing rural economies and societies;
Planning policy, planning theory, governance and devolution;
Regional economic development, institutional processes and politics and
planning law;
Rural land management;
The economics of property markets and land use planning (local,
national and international);
Property investment and property valuation.
The Department of Land Economy is a multidisciplinary department
supporting a research programme which addresses land economy from
economic, political, legal, social and environmental perspectives. It
was rated 4A in the last Research Assessment Exercise, one of only two
comparable departments in the UK to receive such a high rating.
