Ok World -
Can I remind youse all not to send personal or command messages to
the PHYSIO list. These messages are now going to nigh on 1500 people
in all quarters of the globe, and I'm getting irate messages from
list members complaining about their time being wasted with trivia.
Indeed, I have a list member in Nigeria (Hi Wale!) who emailed me
recently to let me know how much the system is costing him
personally, and he and others like him who are using commercial email
providers and have to pay for every minute on-line, are having to
fork out every time someone sends an inappropriate message to the
list.
Now, I could set the list at reply-to-sender (and not
reply-to-list as it is now), but this would mean that interesting
exchanges would be between individuals, and so bypassing the list.
Who knows what valuable information would then be lost to the rest of
us? I have strongly resisted making such a change, because I feel
that some of PHYSIO's strength lies in this democracy: a free
exchange of information which is available to all. The only time when
sending messages to individuals is imperative, is when it's a
personal message, or you have a large file or document which you make
list members aware of, and then send it only to those who request it.
I would welcome views of list members (to the list, of course!), but
in the meantime I would ask everyone to be responsible in their use
of the list. Remember to readdress to individuals if its personal,
and read my 'Handy Hints' messages which go out near enough every
month, which tell you how to quit the list, and other useful
commands.
Reckon that's about it for now....
