WRITER WANTED!!!!!!!
[log in to unmask]
A)GEOGRAPHICAL AREA
The title will cover EUROPE’s CAPITAL CITIES
At present, we are looking for 1 WRITER to cover ROME, FLORENCE, BARCELONA, MADRID, LISBON and Venice.
B) AREAS OF EXPERTISE
Because art/art history features so prominently in defining so much of the culture in Italy and clearly constitutes a large portion of this coverage area as well as the disciplines of architecture, literature, politics, religion, etc., we are seeking individuals who possess a strong grasp of both the histories of art in Spain and Italy as well as possessing a broader understanding of the general histories and social dynamics of the countries (including the cultural identities of these nations, their peoples and their art).
C) STYLE
GET CULTURED is not intended to be highbrow, eyes-glaze-over reading. We want content in accessible form. Imagine your audience as something along the lines of a first-year undergrad with virtually no knowledge of European history esp. art history. Our goal is to instill some knowledge into travelers, to help them learn something even while they enjoy their adventure, to understand what they see, and to make every journey a more fulfilling experience.
D)CALENDAR
Preparatory work will begin following final candidate selection. Since much of the text can be drafted before traveling, a detailed outline and first draft will be completed before the June. The summer's travel is intended to then enable you to contextualize your draft (i.e., “On your left you will see…), fact-check and provide local color, all of which will serve to bring your research to life for your readers.
Tentative Deadlines:
MAY 10th - Outline Submitted
We will all work together on creating a comprehensive outline on what your coverage of cities X,Y,Z should contain. Initial drafting can begin simultaneously.
JUNE 10TH - First Draft
>From information culled largely from your own body of knowledge and secondary research, you will begin “filling in” your outline. Although not a finished product by any means, your sections will take on shape and content.
JUNE 11TH - JULY 19TH - Travel Time
JULY 23RD - Second Draft
This is the "On Location" draft to be completed in the course of your travelling or in the subsequent week.
E)COMPENSATION
You will receive $2,500 for your research and writing — $1,500 to be paid in 3 installments (first draft, second draft, final draft) and up to $1,000 in reimbursed travel expenses. Clearly, this position is
flexible with your schedule and is not intended to be a full-time job.
Most of our contact will be done electronically, including submission of manuscripts and communication. We are a virtual corporation in the truest sense; although we are based in New York, most of our work on-line. Access to the Internet is relatively available throughout most of the region and there should not be a problem keeping in touch during your travels. Although not a necessity, a notebook computer may prove helpful in your note-taking and drafting along the way.
Please submit a brief sketch of your interests, qualifications and experience in these countries as soon as possible as well as any questions and/or concerns you may have with any of the information contained above. Direct all emails to [log in to unmask]
