CHAIR OF THE DISABILITY RIGHTS COMMISSION
3 days per week, stlg82,000 pro rata
The Secretary of State for Education and Employment invites
applications for the post of Chair of the Disability Rights
Commission.
THE ORGANISATION
The Disability Rights Commission will be an independent statutory body,
sponsored by the Department for Education and Employment, to work
towards the elimination of discrimination and to promote equalisation
of opportunities for disabled people with those of non-disabled people.
THE JOB
The Chair will establish the Commission's policies, values and
standards of performance.
Supervise the efficient conduct of the Commission's functions and
responsibilities.
Be the principal point of contact with Ministers and heads of the other
anti-discrimination commissions.
Represent the Commission and its policies publicly.
THE PERSON
Should be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills.
Possess highly developed policy making, communication, presentation and
negotiating skills.
Should have direct experience of disability.
Be aware of the issues facing disabled people and business in Britain's
changing society and economy.
The establishment of the Commission, and appointments to it, cannot be
confirmed until and unless the parliament grants Royal Assent (the
final stage during the passage of legislation through Parliament).
The Commission is expected to have a presence in or around London with
other offices in Scotland, Wales and possibly another location in
England.
Applications are particularly welcome from disabled people, women and
members of ehtnic minority groups.
