I don't know who coined the phrase, but I think the word genocide does
vey nicely. Due to its use throughout the second half of the 20th
century, genocide carries appropriate connotations for the situation in
Eastern Europe. 'Ethnic cleansing' sounds like a group of happy peasants
in native costume laundering linens in a babbling brook.
